In the wake of the A Million Lives Book Festival, there’s been no shortage of critical conversation. But I want to pause and spotlight something refreshing coming out of the discourse, a grounded and gracious response from one of our own.
Atlas Creed, author of Armitage and creator of Indie Author Connect, was one of the AML festival's many attendees and like most attendees, he had a full, complex experience. But what set Atlas apart was how he handled the aftermath.
Instead of rushing to vent online, Atlas took time to reflect, choosing first to amplify the positives of the disaster— the authors he met, the relationships formed, and a towering stack of books he brought home.
Next, he used his platform for community-building and support.
On the Indie Author Connect (IAX) website, a great resource for indie author’s by the way, he’s added a page to support those impacted financially by the event, curating a list of authors, narrators, and vendors who attended AML that were left with financial debt due to flights, hotels, shipping their merchandise, table fees and more. I'll keep today’s article nice and short for you in hopes that you will click on the link, scroll through the list, and do whatever you can to support some of these authors.
Even if you cannot purchase from them, consider following them on social media, or sharing their work/books.

In moments of reactive discourse, Atlas reminded us of the power of patience, integrity, and focus on what really matters— people, stories, and mutual support.
Let’s take notes.
